This week, I’d like you to do three things:

  1. Watch this great video (above) on the way that we are using the Internet, and the way it using us.
  2. Go to Codecademy, create an account, and start the Javascript class.
    https://www.codecademy.com/en/tracks/javascript
  3. Finish the first two Javascript lessons “Getting started with Programming” and “Choose your own adventure”.

And now, this week’s questions, in conjunction with the template:

  1. In what way might a knowledge of coding benefit you in your work/organization/role?
  2. In the video from Michael Wesch above, he describes how the way that we are going to have to rethink a few things. Choose one of the things he lists (besides copyright) and give us an example of how that thing has already started to change. Then, explain how copyright is changing in the context of code and media.
  3. How many people do you know who know how to code? In what way do they benefit from that knowledge? Are there downsides to knowing how to code?
  4. Please add a link to your codecademy profile so that we can follow your progress. Mine is at http://www.codecademy.com/lemasney

Please be as thorough as always. Include images, screenshots, video, and quotes to support your ideas. Celebrate exemplars. Use headings, tags, and other structure to add readability to your posts. If you have not yet updated your profile with a picture, your full name, and a short bio, please do it before next Tuesday. If you have any troubles, please call me.
